South Carolina's 'Grand Canyon' is part of a 43,500-acre wilderness known as Jocassee Gorges. In 1973, 7,500 acres at the bottom of the gorge were covered with water to create Lake Jocassee, a beautifully blended paradise crafted by man and Mother Nature.
All year long, visitors to South Carolina, as well as residents, flock to the shores of Lake Jocassee; some even bring a boat and get out on the water. But not everyone has the luxury of owning a boat.
Having access to a boat on Lake Jocassee opens the door to scenic opportunities you just can't experience without being on the water.
Fortunately, for those who don't have a boat, there is a nature tour company on the lake that knows where all the best (and secret) highlights are. From the comfort of just about the nicest pontoon boat you've ever seen, you'll be motored to some exquisite (and fun) places most people just don't know about.
Or, if you prefer a more rigorous adventure, you can sign up for a wilderness kayak tour and use your own muscle power to see the sights.
Either way, both can get you to incredibly gorgeous spots along the shores of the lake, like this one at Tahiti Beach.
Or Blue Lagoon. The tour guides are all nature-focused and will give you a local's insight into the places you visit, including the nicknames for several popular locations.
The lake has several islands — some MUCH more interesting than others!
Some of them even have hidden little beaches where you can pull over and stretch your legs — and get some amazing photos.
Lake Jocassee is fed by spring waters from a few small mountain rivers and from a multitude of waterfalls. On this tour you'll see a LOT of waterfalls you can only get to by boat. Heck, if you want, your guide will even pull over so you can swim under them! (Yes, please!)
Scenic tours on the lake are provided by Jocassee Lake Tours, which is locally owned and operated. Tours are offered year-round and last either three or four hours, depending on the tour you select. They even have a Sunset Tour and a Moon Rising Tour!
Have an unparalleled adventure exploring South Carolina's canyon lake on this tour and discover a side to this paradise you can only see by way of boat.
Lake Jocassee Tours operates year-round. All tours depart from the main dock at Devil's Fork State Park. Find out more and purchase your tour on their official website.
