South Carolina is blessed with culinary talent beyond comprehension. The creative dishes, inspiring food and beautifully plated works of art that you'll find in the Palmetto State are unrivaled in most parts of the country. For sure, there's no shortage of excellent restaurants in South Carolina! But rarely do you find one that cultivates their own ingredients!
Tomato Shed Cafe is located on Main Road on Johns Island and inside the Stone Market.
This South Carolina eatery is more than just a farm-to-table restaurant.
It's also a market where you'll find fresh vegetables, baked goods and other delicious homemade things like preserves.
The restaurant and market are just up the road from the source of much of the menu and the made-with-love prepared foods in the market.
The source of much of the food is the Ambrose Family Farm, a seasonal "you-pick" farm less than an hour south of Charleston.
In season, you can pick your own strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and tomatoes. There's also a vegetable stand at the farm.
Now, back to the restaurant...
You'll love the menu selection, which includes fresh local shrimp...
...vegetable sides straight from the farm...
...and even a tasty crab cake sandwich!
Outside the market, admire the unique hand-crafted items for sale.
Everyone needs a grill shaped like a pig or a bull, right?
Too much? How about some creative yard art?
Whatever your fancy, from a delicious locally-sourced meal to fresh bread or a handcrafted porch swing (shown here), you'll find it at the Tomato Shed Cafe and the Stono Market.
The Stono Market and Tomato Shed Cafe are located at 842 Main Rd, Johns Island, SC 29455. It's a beautiful drive out to this unique restaurant. Enjoy the sweeping marsh views smattered with the occasional live oak covered in Spanish Moss. Have you ever been to this farm restaurant? We'd love to know in our comments!
