It’s A Tough Call But This May Just Be The Most Beautiful Area In South Carolina

From the pristine sands of Myrtle Beach to the stunning views at Caesars Head State Park, South Carolina is chock-full of gorgeous places. It's impossible to choose just one favorite, but Botany Bay Plantation Heritage Preserve and Wildlife Management Area might just be one of the most beautiful places in the state.

The Botany Bay Plantation Heritage Preserve and Wildlife Management Area covers 4,687 acres.

You'll find this beautiful place on Edisto Island.

In the 1930s, the Sea Cloud Plantation and the Bleak Hall Plantation were joined to create the Botany Bay Plantation.

The plantation was donated to the state in 1977 and the entire area was made accessible to the public in 2008. The photo above shows some of the ruins of the Sea Cloud Plantation.

Three outbuildings are all that remains of the Bleak Hall Plantation.

They were constructed in the 1840s, and still stand today, in fairly good condition for their age.

Take a stroll along the beach. You'll find tons of driftwood here, especially after winter storms.

Visitors also find lots of sand dollars...

...and tons of pretty seashells. Have fun finding and admiring them, but leave them there!

It's illegal to remove shells from this preserve. Make some pretty art on the beach with your shells, and leave your sculpture for others to enjoy.

A variety of habitats, from fields to wetlands, provide refuge for many birds and animals.

You'll definitely want to make sure you have your phone charged, or bring your camera to capture the resident wildlife.

The natural beauty of this place is breathtaking. Around every turn, you'll find a new, photo-worthy scene.

Take a stroll down the beach path, where you'll be surrounded by thick foliage.

Keep an eye out for snakes - three venomous species call this place home - as well as alligators and poison ivy. This place is jaw-droppingly beautiful, but it's also wild.

The tunnel of trees is one of the most stunning features here.

If you visit Botany Bay, obey the signs that you might see throughout the area.

Remember that this place is a preserve, and the wildlife is protected here. Nesting birds and turtles need plenty of undisturbed space.

For some of South Carolina's most spectacular scenery, make plans to visit this special place soon.
