If you love discovering new and exciting places to explore in South Carolina, then you're in luck! There's a little known barrier island between Myrtle Beach and Charleston that has seven miles of undeveloped shoreline, including a beach that's a photographer's dream. Take a look.
Boneyard Beach is on the northern end of a little known South Carolina island called "Bull Island."
Here, you'll find the remains of a water-stranded forest...
and more driftwood than you could possibly dream of ever finding on a beach again.
Bull Island has seven pristine miles of completely undeveloped beach just waiting for you to show up and take it all in.
Because of the way the island is situated along the Atlantic many shells wash ashore here. It's a fantastic location for shelling.
And for wildlife viewing...
...including THESE GUYS. (Do you see the alligators just ahead of this woman on her left?)
Yes, one of the trails on Bull Island is famously populated with alligators. Unsurprisingly, the trail is nicknamed "Alligator Alley."
But not to worry, the island has 16 miles of trails you can check out on foot. They all have gorgeous, breathtaking scenery.
It's the perfect place to spend the day exploring, so pack a picnic lunch and wear comfortable shoes (not sandals) so you can see all this amazing island (and beach) has to offer.
A tour service called Coastal Expeditions runs year-round and has several different tours you can take, including one that drops you right on Boneyard Beach. (The Bulls Island Ferry!)
The "secret" beach at Bull Island is perfect for a day trip for the entire family.
Who knows? This little known barrier island in South Carolina just might become your new favorite beach!
Want to book passage on the ferry over to the island? Coastal Expeditions operates the ferry and has you covered. Book early to assure you get the dates you want.
