Biking is a fabulous way to get some exercise while also enjoying ever-changing scenery in the Palmetto State. With our mountains in the upstate there certainly are some challenging mountain bike trails, but some of us prefer those nice and easy trails that provide more relaxation and a way to get away from it all, if only for a morning or afternoon.

Here are eight perfectly easy trails for doing just that: getting away and relaxing as you cruise along enjoying some gorgeous views.

1. Riverwalk Greenway - Rock Hill

The Riverwalk Greenway is eight miles of mostly paved trail following alongside the Catawba River. The popular greenway has a few small hills. Find your zen moment at one of the many carved out "resting spots" along the river. Getting there: 2850 Cherry Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29730. More information.

2. Mary Black Rail Trail - Spartanburg

Get your ride in at lunch with the convenient rentals on the Mary Black Rail Trail. The trail is only 3.8 miles out and back so if you pack a lunch then you'll even have time to stop and eat. Getting there: 323-351 E Henry St, Spartanburg, SC 29302. More information.

3. Spanish Moss Trail - Beaufort

Wow. This beautiful trail covers 6.5 miles along the coast in Beaufort. It's a fantastic way to see the Lowcountry. Getting there: there are several entry points. You'll find them all under "access points" at this link.

4. GHS Swamp Rabbit Trail - Greenville

The legendary Swamp Rabbit Trail begins just south of Greenville and passes through town and Falls Park on the Reedy before heading to the clock town at Furman University. The trail travels further, ending approximately one mile past Travelers Rest. There are a few small hills but the trail is perfect for the whole family. 5. Three Rivers Greenway - West Columbia

Hop on this popular trail for views of the beautiful Congaree River. The bike path connects parks in West Columbia and Cayce and is 4.7 miles out and back. Getting there: for parking options and entry points see this link.

6. North Augusta Greeneway - North Augusta

This popular greenway in North Augusta features 12.1 miles (out and back) of smooth trails perfect for cycling. In all, there's a slight elevation rise of just over 500 feet over the long distance. Getting there: 2043-2055 Pisgah Rd, North Augusta, SC 29841. More information.

7. Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge - HIlton Head

Get away from it all on 7.8 miles of flat trails carved into this refuge maintained by the Fish and Wildlife Service. Spin through forests, wetlands, and brushlands as you marvel at the beauty found along this bike path. Oh, and there's a beach at the end of the trail. 8. West Ashley Greenway - Charleston

You'll love this 8.25-mile bike path that winds from South Windermere on Folly Road to Johns Island. Part of the trail is paved, and the rest is gravel-packed earth. Getting there: 70 State Hwy 171, Charleston, SC 29407. More information.
