Mt. Sutro Open Space Reserve is a historic forest that was planted by former mayor, Adolf Sutro. The forest is over a hundred years old. The Fairy Gates Trail located here is the perfect quaint little trail.

The Fairy Gates Trail trail is a lovely 1.8 mile loop, making it an easy and short hike that anyone can enjoy.

The greenery and beauty here is astounding and it's the perfect place to get back in touch with nature.

Sutro Open Space reserve is a true hidden gem in the city. There are not many people who know or can appreciate that there is a forest right here in the city.

Mount Sutro Forest is bordered on the south and west by the Forest Knolls neighborhood, and on the East by Cole Valley. There are a variety of trails located here, but Fairy Gates Trail is the most ideal and charming trail in our humble opinion.

Depending on the weather, you'll be able to see a variety of attractions and even the Bay. The views are certainly rewarding on this hike.

The trees are positively majestic at Mount Sutro with some nearly 200 feet tall, similar to the redwoods of Muir Woods, where the tallest tree is 252 feet.
