Rhode Island waterfalls aren’t known for their towering heights, but they are still absolutely beautiful. Cascade Brook Falls in Greenville comes in as the state’s tallest waterfall at a respectable 12 feet. While it can’t compete in a height contest with other U.S. waterfalls, like Hawaii’s 2,756-foot Pu’uka’oku Falls, it is a lovely visit, nonetheless. So tie on those hiking boots, download your free trial of AllTrails+, and come with me on this hiking adventure to see the tallest waterfall in Rhode Island.
Cascade Brook Falls is located in the Ken Weber Conservation Area at Cascade Brook. This 27-acre property is in Smithfield, which is just about 15 miles northwest of Providence. You enter the park off Route 44 at the sign for Village at Waterman Lake.
The conservation area is dedicated to the late Ken Weber, who was known as “Nature’s best friend in Smithfield.”
Ken and his wife created the trail on this property and named it for the lovely brook and waterfall you find there. Be sure to follow the blue trail markers to stay on the path.
The 1.1 mile loop trail in the park will lead you to the falls. The path is heavily wooded, so if you visit in the fall you will see lovely foliage.
The rocky forest does have some steep areas with a little climbing involved, so hikers with small children should pay close attention.
Along the trail, you will see hints that the woodland has been used by other groups over the years. For instance, there is a stone chimney with fireplaces on all four sides.
The best time to visit the waterfall is in the spring, when the brook is running at full strength. This is when you will see the falls at their most powerful.
Escape into nature on this short but sweet hike to check out the tallest waterfall in Rhode Island. It is a fun adventure for the entire family that won’t disappoint. Don’t forget to download your free trial of AllTrails+ for offline maps and some other cool features.
