Life in Rhode Island is always good -- but in the fall, it's simply splendid. And of the many, many places known for peeping fall foliage here in the Ocean State, Roger Williams Park just might top the list. We highly recommend taking a stroll through this vibrant scenery before the season is over.
Roger Williams Park is an enormous 435-acre gem in Providence.
Know as The People's Park, it was created in 1871 after a generous land donation by Betsey Williams. Betsey was the great-great-great granddaughter of Rhode Island founder Roger Williams.
Today, Roger Williams Park has a botanical center, a zoo, a Carousel Village, swan boats, and so much more.
It hosts large annual events and festivals, small family gatherings, and is home to bike paths and ball fields.
You simply won't find a place quite this pretty in Rhode Island in the fall.
The gorgeous fall foliage here is known all around New England.
The best way to see the autumn hues in all their glory is by walking the Roger Williams Pond Trail, one of several fantastic trails in the park.
This 3.8-mile loop is an easy, pleasant trek, but it's still quite a workout.
You can choose a slow stroll around the pond to make sure you take in all the best views, or enjoy a quicker jog.
There is also. paved route perfect for strollers and wheelchairs if needed.
Roger Williams Park is home to over 5,000 trees and a wide variety of species, so you'll see all kinds of beautiful colors.
And the shores of the ponds and lakes happens to be the best place to do it.
As you can imagine, this is a popular trail, so go during the week (and early in the day) if you'd rather avoid other hikers.
The park is currently opening at 9 a.m.
