Do you believe in ghosts? You might after you stroll through this park at dusk a time or two.

Colt State Park was once a farm owned by Samuel P. Colt, who purchased it in 1905.

After Colt's death in 1921, the lands passed to his Industrial Trust Company. Colt's will stated that he wanted the farm to remain open to the public.

Unfortunately, the farm was subject to vandalism and trespassers. And so, in 1965, the State of Rhode Island purchased Colt Farm.

In 1968, it was dedicated as Colt State Park by Rhode Island Governor John Chafee.

These days, the park is a top attraction in Bristol.

Visitors can explore miles of scenic biking trails along the bay and check out the historic sites.

But spend enough time at Colt State Park and you just might see more than you bargained for.

There are quite a few ghost stories tied to this place, and there are a few sinister stories.

Prior to being sold, it is believed that a stable hand died in the barn at the farm.

Another story indicates that two young sisters drowned in the waters here in the 1970s.

Park staff sometimes hears two girls giggling in the woods near the park, and some have even spotted them.

One park visitor claimed that as he was walking to his car, two little girls walked up the path toward him only to vanish as he got closer. And sometimes, the park staff will shut off lights and close doors only to find them on or open when they return a few hours later.
