This little-known nature trail in Rhode Island fits the definition of a hidden gem AND a natural wonder to a T. After all, it's bursting with natural beauty, a historic cemetery, and a few surprises along the way. Even better, it's one trail the whole family will love.

If you've not stumbled across Moshassuck River Preserve in Rhode Island yet, you're in for a delightful treat.

Although it's less than 10 miles from the hustle and bustle of big city life in Providence, the nature preserve will leave you feeling like you're in the middle of nowhere.

The Rhode Island gem spans more than 200 acres, some of which you can explore on one of its hiking trails, like the Blue and Yellow Loop Trail.

Ample parking is available on Sherman Avenue, just next to the clubhouse for the Fairlawn Golf Course. If the parking lot is full, parking in the golf course's lot is permitted.

Bring your pup along, as long as he remains leashed, for your journey along one of the scenic trails. The Blue and Yellow Trail, which scores an easy rating, clocks in at just 2.7 miles.

A historic cemetery. You may have to cross streams, so prepare for muddy conditions by wearing proper shoes and clothing.

Take your camera, because you'll be surrounded by photo-worthy scenery, including glacial boulders.

Keep an eye out for local wildlife. The nature preserve is home to frogs, salamanders, white tail deer, skunks, and foxes.
