Living in a coastal state means our sunsets are like no other, and it's certainly easier to catch one on any given day than a sunrise. But Rhode Island actually happens to have some of the most visually stunning sunrises on the East Coast, and they're well worth setting the alarm and leaving your cozy bed to experience.
Intrigued? Start by catching the sunrise at Brenton Point State Park.
Located in Newport, Brenton Point State Park occupies the former grounds of one of Newport's grandest estates.
The point of land was named after colonial Governor William Brenton.
In 1885, a beautiful house known as The Reef was built here for Theodore M. Davis by the Boston architectural firm of Sturgis and Brigham.
When Davis died in 1915, the estate went into the hands of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Budlong of Providence. Unfortunately, the grounds were eventually abandoned and unoccupied. But the state park is now public land, and it's absolutely gorgeous.
Brenton Point State Park is open from sunrise to sunset, and people love to gather at the end of the day...
... but there's also something to be said for showing up when the sun is first peeking over the horizon.
Seeing this stunning land bathed in the soft early morning light is amazing.
This is actually considered one of the best places in Rhode Island to watch the sun come up.
That may be because you can sit by the ocean, breathe in the salty air, and listen to the crashing of the waves while you watch.
Once the sun comes up, you can take a morning seaside stroll on one of the park's many walking trails.
The park is located at the point of land where Narragansett Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean, so there's plenty of scenery to take in.
Brenton Point State Park is open all year long, so you can catch a sunrise (or a sunset) at any time.
However, keep in mind that the restrooms are typically only open May 1st - October 31st.
