This Little Known Park Near Portland Is The Perfect Place To Get Away From It All

If you want to get away from it all, head to the mouth of the Columbia River at the lovely Cape Disappointment State Park. While the name may indicate otherwise, this trip away from the city will be anything but disappointing. With ample beach exploration time and plenty of peaceful solitude in nature, you will be recharged and ready to jump back into city life in no time.

Located just across the Columbia in Washington, the park takes about 2 hours to reach from Portland.

Once there, you will be instantly transfixed on the power of nature as the waves from the Pacific Ocean crash into the Columbia.

The natural beauty of the park makes it easy to give pause and appreciate the sheer power of nature.

Two lighthouses are focal points and are steeped in local history of the region. Lewis and Clark journeyed here, and their lasting impact on the Native Americans of the region can be explored in the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center.

History buffs will enjoy the overgrown military bunkers and coastal defenses, while the views, smell of saltwater, surfing and boating will interest others.

Stay for more than the day at one of the park's many on-site facilities. Three cabins are available for reservations throughout the year.

14 yurts are also available. All accommodations are heated, making your stay cozy even with the cool ocean winds. There are also over 200 camping spots available at the park.

Once you are there, you will definitely want to stay for the sunset, as the sky lights up in a magnificent way over the ocean.

You will leave the park feeling refreshed and ready to tackle your next journey in life. Unlike those that named this idyllic location, you will be anything but disappointed about this incredible getaway from the city.
