As the weather heats up, we all begin to seek respite in the water. For a cool, relaxing lazy river float, look no further than the Sandy River. This easy beginner float features swiftly moving water and plenty of sun, making the close-to-the-city river the best around for a tubing adventure.
The most popular stretch of the river for tubing is from Dabney State Recreation Site to Lewis and Clark State Recreation Site, about a 3-mile trip. Depending on your pace, this can take about 2 to 3 hours.
On a hot summer day, this is all you need for relaxation.
Be sure to pack a lunch, drinks, and bring plenty of sunscreen for your day in the sun.
Nice sandy beaches along the way give you plenty of room to stretch out and take it slow.
The scenery on this stretch of river is really beautiful, and you will love how close you are to the city, but how it feels worlds away.
Even dogs can get in on the fun.
The scenery is epic and will have you wanting to float more often this summer once you try this laziest of water sports.
If possible, bring two cars and park one at your ending spot so things are easy when you get out of the river.
With some simple planning, this just might be one of the best days on the river you have.
To get started, head to Dabney State Recreation Site, head east on I-84 to Exit 18. Follow the Historic Columbia River Highway to the park. For more information on tubing the Sandy River, visit the Sandy River Water Trail site.
