Pennsylvania's many state parks — like this 1,164-acre state park near Pittsburgh — remain open all year round, making them an ideal destination regardless of the season.
Tucked in a corner of Greene County close to the West Virginia border, Ryerson Station State Park is less than 60 miles from downtown Pittsburgh.
And, since it's open from dawn to dusk all year around, it's the perfect destination any time of the year.
So, lace up your hiking boots for your visit to this tranquil state park that offers plenty to do in the summer and in the winter.
Up for a hike? Embark on one of the 13 miles of trails that will lead you through mature forests, evergreen plantations, and wetlands.
Other popular activities at the state park including picnicking, fishing, and hunting.
Of course, keep an eye out for the local wildlife — from owls and deer to frogs and ducks.
In the summer, pack your swimsuit. Ryerson Station State Park's swimming pool welcomes guests daily between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
And, on those snowy winter days, make the expansive park your playground, sledding down hills, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.
One day simply too short to enjoy all the park has to offer? Good news. Camping cottages, with electric heat, are open all year round.
