The Spooky Hike Near Pittsburgh That Will Lead You Somewhere Deserted
Explore the easy and unique Meeks Run and Oil Well Trail near Pittsburgh, featuring natural beauty and historical artifacts.
Pittsburgh's certainly not lacking when it comes to fascinating trails we can explore. If you're on the hunt for an easy, unique, and maybe even a bit of a spooky hike near Pittsburgh, slip on your hiking boots and head out on the Meeks Run and Oil Well Trail. It features an abundance of natural beauty and some really unique artifacts that time has forgotten (or so it seems).
Running through Montour Woods Conservation Area in Coraopolis, Meeks Run and Oil Well Trail clocks in at just under two miles.
The relatively short trail is considered easy, making it appropriate for hikers of all ages and of all skill levels. During your journey, you'll stroll along tree-lined paths and on...
A picturesque wooden boardwalk. You'll probably want to wear waterproof or an old pair of shoes, as you'll cross a shallow creek twice along the way.
The trail, for the most part, is quite quiet. However, that quiet can be shattered by frequent gunshots, adding a spooky aura to the hike. (There's a shooting range not too far away.)
You'll also run across a few pieces of history - like the remnants of old drilling equipment. It's a pretty good spot for taking photos, too.
The trail is also home to the remains of an old car, in the woods so long that nature has begun to reclaim it.
Trees grow around the smashed up car, and dirt and debris sit underneath it.
You'll also discover quite a bit of natural beauty along the trail - from flowing little waterfalls to enchanting footbridges. It's a popular hike with parents who have kids of all ages and for those who want to walk their dogs.
