Less than two hours from downtown Pittsburgh, Oil Creek State Park spans more than 6,200 acres. And, nestled in those acres are countless stories of the oil industry in Pennsylvania.
As you explore the park, keep an eye out for the historical tableaus that replicate the oil boom in the 1860s through the 1960s. Tableaus include replica machinery, equipment, and empty buildings.
The Hunt Farm Tableau, for example, features pumping jacks and an engine house.
Of course, you'll also find plenty else to do at Oil Creek State Park. Embark, for example, on one of the picturesque trails that crisscross the park.
Or, sit back, relax, and admire the scenery. Fishing in Oil Creek, brimming with trout and bass, is also a popular activity.
And, seek out the picture-perfect waterfalls that cascade throughout the park. Pictured below is Miller Falls.
