Swim at This Iconic Natural Waterslide Swimming Hole in Pennsylvania for the Ultimate Outdoor Fun

If you're making a summer bucket list of epic and iconic swimming holes in Pennsylvania, you'll want to add Meadow Run Natural Waterslide.

Are you ready to have some fun this summer? Nothing sounds quite like summer than spending time at a local swimming hole. Whether you splash around in a lake, a river, or underneath a waterfall, it's a great way to cool off while enjoying time surrounded by nature. If you're making a summer bucket list of epic and iconic swimming holes in Pennsylvania, you'll want to add Meadow Run Natural Waterslide.

Located in Ohiopyle at Ohiopyle State Park, you'll have to hike to one of the state's most iconic swimming holes. Meadow Run Natural Waterslide is hard to beat in terms of both adventure and summer fun. But how did this natural waterslide area come to be?

Over millions of years, Meadow Run Creek, a 14-mile tributary of the Youghiogheny River, carved and smoothed the sandstone bedrock it flowed over. The creek left behind smooth channels that make perfect slides, some of which are around 100 feet long. Sliding down these chutes will drop you into a refreshing pool of water, and it's an incredibly fun activity that will cool you off in the hot summer months.

To reach the natural waterslide, hike along the 3-mile Meadow Run Trail at Ohiopyle State Park. Starting at Dinerbell Road, this kid- and dog-friendly loop trail is rated moderate on AllTrails and has an elevation gain of 433 feet. It meanders through the forest, past sandstone cliffs, and along the river where you'll find Meadow Run and its iconic waterslides. The views are absolutely gorgeous, even before you get to the river, so bide your time to take in all the scenery.

When packing for this hike, don't forget water shoes, your swimsuit, and a towel. Also, expect the area to be crowded as this is a popular spot for the natural waterslides and pools. I also suggest taking a picnic—you'll most likely want to spend several hours here.

Depending on whether there was recent rain, the water may flow at faster speeds through the waterslide channels. You may want to check the water levels before you get in and take a ride on any of the natural slides.

Who needs a man-made waterslide park when you have one created by nature right here in Pennsylvania? I don't think there's a better place to cool off this summer than the Meadow Run Natural Waterslide at Ohiopyle State Park. What do you think?

Please note that there are no lifeguards at Meadow Run Natural Waterslide. Please exercise caution while sliding down the chutes and wading in the water. To learn more about the natural waterslide, visit the Ohiopyle State Park website.
