Pack A Picnic For A Scenic Hike Along Grove Run Trail In Pennsylvania

A picnic paired with a hike can be a great stress reliever any time of the year. Since we have no shortage of scenic trails that dot the state, we can pretty much go anywhere. Sometimes hidden gems get overlooked, too, like Grove Run Trail in Pennsylvania. Pack a picnic lunch, for before or after your trek, and follow this picturesque trail that showcases wildflowers, wild mushrooms, and even a few waterfalls.

Grove Run Trail meanders nearly four miles through Linn Run State Park. With several steep climbs, it's earned a moderate rating, so make sure you're up for the challenge.

If you are, you'll be rewarded with an abundance of beautiful natural scenery. The trailhead starts right behind the picnic area at Grove Run.

Wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots, because you'll face some challenging terrain beyond the elevation changes. You may come across, for example, downed trees and roots jutting up from the ground.

You'll have to cross several streams, so you might want to opt for waterproof shoes or shoes you don't mind getting wet. Be prepared for muddy conditions if you visit after a recent rainfall.

However, you'll also come across some jaw-dropping beauty, crossing a footbridge and stopping at two small but picture-perfect waterfalls.

Plan to spend at least a few hours on the loop trail, maybe a bit longer if you're hiking when there's snow on the ground or after it's rained.

Pups are permitted on the trail as long as they're leashed and cleaned up after.
