Enter an enchanting garden that will immediately bring to mind the fairy tales of your childhood. During your visit, you can stroll along an elevated walkway, next to a babbling brook, and watch the shimmering sun's rays sneak through the trees as you sit on a stone bench. Chanticleer Garden in Pennsylvania offers a relaxing way to spend a few hours or an entire day.
Meander along the 27-acre Chanticleer Garden, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, where you'll discover a vast array of vibrant flowers, plants, and trees.
Less than a half an hour from Philadelphia, the sprawling garden features nearly a dozen different sections, including a pond garden, an Asian garden, and a teacup garden.
Stop to smell the bright flowers that line the walking paths or get a bird's eye view of the garden from one of the observation decks along the elevated walkway.
When you need a break or just feel like drinking in the natural beauty of your surroundings, sink into one of the wooden chairs dotted throughout the garden.
Or sit on a stone bench and let the warmth of the sun's rays wash over you.
Allow the songs of the birds serenade you as you come upon colorful butterflies. Remember to leave the animals and the plants as you found them, and don't forget your camera.
Chanticleer Garden offers both self-guided tours and guided tours starting at Chanticleer House, the home of the Rosengarten family in the early 20th century.
The 45-minute guided tours are held Fridays and Saturdays at 11 a.m. Reservations are recommended. Group guided tours, which require advanced reservations and a deposit, are available Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Learn more about horticulture by signing up for one of Chanticleer Garden's classes - such as Yoga for Gardeners or Dry Gardening - or by attending a workshop.
