The Family-Friendly Park In Pennsylvania Where Kids Can Get An Up-Close Look At Wildlife

From crossing paths with deer on a sunny afternoon on a wooded trail to being startled awake by bunny feet on my face, I am happiest when I'm around animals. It's a love I've passed on to my daughter and, whenever we're looking for our next adventure, we tend to gravitate to those that involve animals, whether it's a hike through the woods or an animal-centric attraction like this family-friendly park in Pennsylvania.

Upper Schuylkill Valley Park in Royersford isn't your everyday run-of-the-mill park. Sure, it offers what you'd expect - picnicking, boating, and fishing - at a park, but there's more...

The Wildlife Center at this 15-acre park promises the opportunity to see a variety of animals - from ducks to wolves - up close.

One of the most unique ways to explore the park is along the Montco StoryWalk. Pick up the trail by the animals, and follow it along the Schuylkill River.

If you're not near Royersford, you can also find StoryWalk at Norristown Park in East Norriton and Pennypacker Mills in Schwenksville.

Along the path, you'll come across the pages of a children's book, so the kiddos can read a book while having fun and getting exercise. Books change every few months and have included such tales as "Animals In Winter."

The highlight of the park, though, is arguably the Wildlife Center that's home to foxes, donkeys, owls, chickens, and goats.

Head to the indoor space to view the Schuylkill Wilds, where you can snap photos of fish, frogs, and turtles. If you like snakes, you'll see them, too.

Don't forget to stroll through the butterfly garden during the warmer months.

This one-of-a-kind park in Royersford is open daily from 8 a.m. until sunset. However, it is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.

If you're not in a hurry, bring a picnic along. You'll find plenty of picnic tables overlooking the Schuylkill River. Or cast a line riverside or on the pier for a bit of fishing.

The park hosts a variety of programs, for all ages, throughout the year.
