You’ll Be Happy To Hear That Pittsburgh’s Fall Foliage Is Expected To Be Bright And Bold This Year

Here comes fall! Most of us have our own favorite fall traditions - whether it's picking pumpkins at a local farm or attending a fall festival. But, of most of us can probably agree that one of the best parts of autumn is the sheer beauty of the fall foliage. Living in the Burgh, we're lucky to have plenty of spots to drink in the splendor of the season. But, first, we have to know when to plan for the most colorful times. Here are the predictions for the fall foliage in Pittsburgh in 2018.

Unlike the rest of PA, according to Smoky Mountains's fall foliage predictions, Southwestern Pennsylvania's only going to see spotty fall foliage to usher in October.

But, by the week of October 8, the leaves will have already started to change. So, expect partial fall foliage throughout the area.

Start planning your fall foliage viewing activities for the week of October 15, when the colors are expected to be near peak.

However, the big week - when the fall foliage is expected to peak - is predicted for October 22. (By October 29, however, the fall foliage will be well past its peak.)

That's right. Our fall foliage season is longer, according to the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), due to several factors.

PA's topography, location, and 134 species of trees combine to create one of the best fall foliage seasons in the world.
