This One Place In Oregon Will Make You Wish You Lived Underground
The Oregon Caves National Monument is truly a wonder to behold. Located in the Siskiyou Mountains of Southwestern Oregon, this hidden gem is nestled into a gorgeous old growth forest.
Discovered in 1874, this stunning cave is especially unique in that its 15,000 feet of passages are formed entirely out of marble. Over the millenniums, the limestone that originally formed the cave metamorphosized into marble, creating the strange and beautiful scenery that exists inside of the cave today. Check it out for yourself. Tours are offered from mid-April through early November.
The dramatic caverns are full of amazing stalagmites and stalactites.
These are called soda straw stalactites. These marble columns grew so long that they became attached to the bottom of the cave.

The exit of the cave will take you to the lovely Cliff Nature Trail if you want to keep exploring the area.
Built in a ravine in 1934, the Oregon Caves Chateau is a beautiful, historical building that now serves as hotel; it's a perfect place to stay during your Oregon Caves getaway.
