With well over 200 waterfalls in Oregon, you could spend an entire year hiking to a new cascade every day. There’s one beautiful waterfall that’s hidden away, but well worth the extra effort to find. This stunning waterfall drops for more than 90 feet and is one of the most beautiful waterfall hikes in Oregon. Wear your good boots for this hike, you’re going to need them!
Abiqua Falls is hidden away in the Santiam State Forest.
It’s actually located on private land, but the owners have been generous enough to open it up to the public (just make sure to leave no trace and leave the place as beautiful as you found it).
Depending on where you start your hike, you’re looking at a 1-mile or 5-mile hike, with about 1,100 feet in elevation.
The trailhead can be tricky to find, and the road to the trailhead is notoriously not the greatest for those without 4WD. The first parking lot you'll come across will have you close to the 5-mile trail. If you've got a car with high clearance or 4WD, you can drive on for about two more miles, and then you'll have about a 1-mile hike to the waterfall.
The trail through the forest is steep and rocky, so be sure to wear your good pair of hiking shoes for this trail.
The scenery along the trail is perfectly PNW.
This trail takes on a whole new life in the winter, so come back with your snowshoes to experience the trail's winter wonderland.
Once you traverse through the steep terrain, you're in for a treat.
The magical Abiqua Falls is like something out of a mythical world.
The basalt columns make this hike feel like you're hiking in Iceland!
The waterfall cascades down for an impressive 92 feet.
As you stand in the bowl, surrounded by basalt columns and towering trees, take a moment to appreciate this hidden waterfall in Oregon! It might just become your new favorite waterfall hike.
While this is a great hike for adults, it may not be the most kid-friendly. Check out these kid-friendly waterfall hikes in Oregon for a fun-filled day with the entire crew.
