Hidden gems often define the beauty of a place, and Oklahoma is no stranger to such enchanting secrets. Tucked away near the serene Bixby, the Bixhoma Waterfall Trail remains a relatively undiscovered treasure, waiting to be explored by adventurous souls seeking a touch of nature's marvel. Meandering through the picturesque landscape, this 0.3-mile trail is a short but fulfilling escapade for hikers and waterfall enthusiasts.
Lake Bixhoma, located approximately 5 miles southeast of Bixby on Leonard Mountain, offers a serene retreat for nature enthusiasts. The lake is renowned for its fishing opportunities and picturesque surroundings, making it a popular spot for picnics, kayaking, and leisurely walks.
The lake is a starting point for this lesser-known trail that leads to a waterfall. You'll find the trail on the east end of the lake.
As you venture into the trail's embrace, prepare to immerse yourself in a world that feels far removed from the bustle of everyday life.
Despite its short length, the Bixhoma Waterfall Trail promises a delightful journey. With an average completion time of just 10-15 minutes, it caters to both beginners and seasoned hikers, offering a chance to revel in the mesmerizing beauty of the Oklahoma wilderness.
The trail culminates in the breathtaking sight of the Bixhoma Waterfall, particularly enchanting after a spell of rain, showcasing nature's beauty in full splendor.
If it hasn't rained lately the waterfall might be dry so don't be disappointed if you don't see a waterfall. The hike is still worth it to see the surrounding beauty.
And if you visit in the summer months, you can take a dip in the cool, clear water in the swimming hole at the bottom of the waterfall.
