This Valentine's Day, how about doing something different than the typical dinner out at a fancy restaurant? I think that one of the most romantic things you can do on the day of love this year is to hike to an overlook with views that will take your breath away.

If this sounds like a great alternative to dinner out, take your special person to the Mount Scott Overlook at Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge, one of the most romantic hiking trails in Oklahoma. The Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge in Southern Oklahoma is a vast space of nearly 60,000 acres filled with grass prairie land, lakes, streams, and granite mountains. It's also home to a wide array of wildlife, like elk and bison, that you may see herds of when you visit. To say it's majestic is an understatement!

For your Valentine's Date, I suggest you pack a picnic and head to Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge, where you'll discover the Mount Scott Overlook Trail. Located near the town of Medicine Park, this 5.6-mile out-and-back trek is rated moderate and will take nearly 3 hours to complete. However, if you want to savor your time at the overlook with your Valentine, I suggest you plan on spending more than 3 hours here.

The trail to Mount Scott Overlook is paved, wheelchair-friendly, and shared with motorized vehicles, so keep that in mind. However, if you prefer to drive this trail instead of hiking it, you'll have to wait until the afternoon, as the road is closed to vehicles daily until then. It's nice to have the option to hike or drive to the top.

You may choose to hike up to Mount Scott Overlook for sunrise or drive or hike up later in the day to catch the sunset. With 360-degree views of the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge, you'll feel romance in the air! This is the perfect spot to enjoy your picnic.
