This Canyon Hike Is One of Oklahoma’s Most Scenic Trails
Embark on the best canyon hike in Oklahoma at Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park. It's short, easy, and paved, yet it boasts incredible views.
Canyons may not immediately come to mind when you think about the Sooner State (they don't for me, at least), but this canyon hike in Oklahoma begs to differ. Located in the beautiful Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park in Hinton, the Red Rock Canyon Paved Trail is less than a mile long and easy enough for all ages and skill levels. Let's not forget that it offers some incredible views.
At just three-fourths of a mile long, the Red Rock Canyon Paved Trail is perfect if you want a quick adventure that won't eat up your whole day or leave you feeling drained. It's great for kids, and dogs are allowed, so bring the entire crew and get ready for a fun time.
The trail is flat (the elevation gain is less than 10 feet) and not as popular as some of the other hikes in the park, so you'll likely enjoy some solitude. It only takes about 12 minutes to complete, which means you can move at a leisurely pace and take your time admiring the scenery. Lush greenery covers the rugged landscape, and many different bird species make their homes here.
At the end of your brief, yet worthwhile adventure, lovely views of the canyon await. Perhaps you'll bring along some snacks in your backpack to have a little picnic while you take it all in. Wide open skies, an ancient landscape formed over centuries by a patient, yet determined Mother Nature, and a silence so profound you could hear a pin drop. It truly doesn't get much better than that.
One of the best things about the Red Rock Canyon Paved Trail is that it connects with several other trails, so you can keep your outing abbreviated or continue exploring. If you aren't quite ready to pack it out just yet, you can go on to discover fairytale-like wooden boardwalks and vegetation so dense that the sky is hardly visible through the trees overhead.
Visit AllTrails to learn more about the Red Rock Canyon Paved Trail. If you're interested in perks like 3D maps and offline map access, AllTrails+ can be a real saving grace. I can't tell you how many times it's come to my rescue in remote areas with no cell service. Our hiking packing list is also a phenomenal resource if you're in need of new gear. It has everything from clothing to accessories like water bottles and backpacks, all from trusted brands. (Speaking of clothes, you'll want to wear long pants on this hike because there is some poison ivy along the trail.)
