Enjoy Crystal-Clear Water at Little Niagara, a Gorgeous Swimming Hole Tucked Away in Southern Oklahoma
Little Niagara Falls in Oklahoma is a beautiful swimming hole with crystal-clear water, located in the Chickasaw National Recreation Area.
If you've never visited Little Niagara Falls in Oklahoma, you've been missing out. It's a gorgeous swimming hole with crystal-clear, cold water. It's tucked away in the foothills of the Arbuckle Mountains in southern Oklahoma, and it's the perfect place to spend a summer day. Plus, it's more than just a waterfall swimming hole in Oklahoma-- there are miles and miles of beautiful hiking trails, mineral-water streams, and lakes to enjoy...plus so much more.
Sitting pretty within the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Little Niagra Falls is an idyllic spot to spend a summer day. This nearly 10,000-acre area, with its pristine waters and picturesque scenery, is the perfect place to explore the great outdoors.
Located inside the recreation area is Travertine Creek - a gorgeous creek that runs through stunning scenery. The creek is not only beautiful but is also a perfect spot to cool off in the summer, as it maintains an average of 65 degrees year-round.
If you plan to swim or walk around the water, make sure you have a good pair of shoes. Those rocks can be slippery!
Along the creek, you'll find Little Niagara, a fun waterfall swimming hole in Oklahoma that resembles a mini Niagara Falls.
The recreation area has more than four hiking trails, many of which lead to natural spring-fed swimming holes.
The Travertine Creek Trail is an easy hike at just under three miles round-trip, and it's one of my favorite trails in the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. It will take you along the stunning Travertine Creek and over to the Little Niagara Falls swimming hole. The out-and-back trail clocks in at about three miles and is well-maintained and rated easy on AllTrails.
The gorgeous blue and green colors of the creek make it a popular destination year-round. If it's too cold to swim in Little Niagara Falls in Sulphur, Oklahoma, don't worry. The scenery still makes a beautiful backdrop for hiking or fishing. There are also plenty of things to do in Sulphur if you want to make a day out of it!
There are a number of cold-water mineral springs in the park, which give rise to sulfur, bromide, and iron-bearing waters. Spend some time exploring the park; it's worth it.
