Lake Murray Is the Single Best State Park in Oklahoma and It’s Just Waiting to Be Explored

Oklahoma is lucky to have so many gorgeous state parks. From one side of the state to the other, there is a wide variety of eco-regions that house almost 50 state parks...all waiting to be explored. One of the best in the state, Lake Murray State Park, is also the first and largest state park in Oklahoma. There is so much to do here, you almost don't know where to begin. The state park is located on the shores of Lake Murray in Ardmore and is home to over 12,000 acres of astounding beauty. It's known for its iconic centerpiece, Tucker Tower - a monument and nature center in the state park.

Lake Murray offers something for everyone - hiking, camping, fishing, water sports, and golfing are just some of the fun activities that await you.

There's so much to see and do here that you're definitely going to want to stay in one of the campgrounds, cabins, or lodge overnight and extend your trip as long as possible. The newly renovated lodge is a great option for overnight accommodations. It's perched up on a hill overlooking the lake and offers breathtaking views of the park and the lake. There's also a swimming pool at the lodge that is available for overnight guests. It's the perfect spot to relax or let the kids swim in a contained area. If the lodge is booked, there are 56 cabins peppered around the park, plus plenty of campsites, so you've got plenty of options.

The lake is clearly the star of the show here, and there are plenty of ways to enjoy it. Guests can rent kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, pontoon boats, and many other water toys to explore the lake. It's a perfect way to see the state park from an entirely new perspective. You can even rent jet skis!

While I do love the endless miles of hiking trails at the park, I think the best way to experience Lake Murray State Park is to get out on the water. It's the perfect way to spend a summer day!
