Enjoy Fresh Air And Sunshine At J.T. Nickel Preserve In Oklahoma

The J.T. Nickel Family Nature and Wildlife Preserve offers a variety of outdoor activities and pristine natural landscapes in Northeast Oklahoma.

Enjoy fresh air and sunshine in the great outdoors at the J.T. Nickel Family Nature and Wildlife Preserve. The Nickel Preserve is the largest privately protected conservation area in the Ozarks. Sitting on more than 17,000 acres in Northeast Oklahoma, this amazing piece of land offers something for anyone that enjoys the great outdoors. Hiking and exploring are two of the most common activities. Swimming in the Illinois River or the Bathtub Rocks crystal clear water is a great way to cool off in the summer heat. All trails are currently open during daytime hours, so gather your friends and family and take a trip — it's only about an hour east of Tulsa.

The J. T. Nickel Family Nature and Wildlife Preserve sits on 17,000 acres of privately-owned pristine landscape along the Illinois River.

Canoeing down the Illinois River is a summer activity that you will want to participate in year after year.

Elk were reintroduced in 2005 on the Nickel Preserve. Once common to the Ozarks, elk had been absent from this area for more than 100 years.

Bathtub Rocks, which is a part of the Cedar Creek River in the preserve, has water flowing over it that is considered to be one of the state’s most pristine water sources. It's a natural water slide that you'll want to visit during the summer months.

As you explore the Nickel Preserve, there are limitless photo opportunities at every turn. Hiking through these woods will take your breath away.

The prescribed burns at the preserve help to control invasive plants, encourage native plant and tree renewal, and reduce the risk for wildfires. It's quite mesmerizing to view from afar.

Trails in every direction will offer you hours of exercise and serenity in nature. It's a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of life where you can enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.
