If you’ve been to Beavers Bend State Park, chances are, you’ve hiked the Friends Trail Loop. It’s the most popular trail inside the park, so it gets a lot of traffic. However, if you’re a true nature lover, you should explore the Beaver Lodge Nature Trail too. This 3.0-mile out-and-back trail is both scenic and challenging in some areas, which makes for a fantastic hiking experience.
At the start of the trail, you’ll witness the most picturesque views from the Beavers Bend Dam spillway. Once you’ve cleared the paved surfaces, the trail takes you inside the gorgeous hardwood forest. Expect the terrain to be rugged, narrow, and rocky with some steep inclines. It wouldn’t hurt to wear sturdy hiking boots for this trek.
What you’ll like the most about this trail is that it meanders along the Mountain Fork River for the entire hike. So, you will hear the soothing sounds of the river as it flows by. Moreover, there are lots of places for you to explore the crystal-clear waters of the river up close. The pretty, roaring waterfall will be a great backdrop for some cool nature pictures, so make sure you have your camera ready for this spot.
There is no shortage of beautiful scenery along the way. If you’re here during the summer, the wildflowers will be plenty. The forest also comes alive during the fall with brilliant autumn hues. If you want to escape the crowds, I recommend that you visit during the colder months. To be honest, this trail is great no matter when you visit.
Bring the pup along but keep them on the leash. This nature hike is also great for the little ones. Just take extra caution while trekking the narrow portion of the trail. The kiddos will especially enjoy climbing the layered rocks on the river.
It will take about 2 hours to complete this hike, but you’re probably going to spend some time marveling at the serenity of nature. Bring a fishing rod or pack a snack and find a scenic spot to sit and bask in all the beauty. Overall, this rugged terrain in Oklahoma is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, and you’re going to love every part of this adventure.
