If you're wondering where everyone is today, check the Gathering Place in Tulsa. The park is celebrating its grand opening and we hear it's pretty insane! In case you haven't heard, Gathering Place is a world-class riverfront park that cost over $465 million to build. The New York Times recently featured this park and quoted it "as one of the largest and most ambitious public parks ever created with private funds." No matter where you live in the state, it's worth a trip to Tulsa to check out the most impressive (and newest) park in the state.
Here's a preview of everything this park has to offer:
Located on the banks of the Arkansas River on Riverside Drive in Tulsa, Gathering Place is a world-class centralized park located on almost 100 acres in the heart of the city. Construction began in 2014 after a generous gift from the George Kaiser Family Foundation.
The park is open to the public and free of charge. There are experiences for everyone of all ages and interests. The Boathouse features a restaurant inside with amazing food and breathtaking views of the river and park. You can also check out paddle boats, kayaks, and canoes on the first level.
Every section is spectacular but the little ones with fall in love with the five acre - Chapman Adventure Playground.
Everything imaginable is in this play area. From slides and swings to play gardens and water areas, every kid's dream will come alive as they explore all the creative pieces.
Plus, there's an area called the Spiral Connector that consists of seven majestic towers with suspension bridges, climbing structures, puzzles, slides, and more.
The park isn't just for the kids! Come take a run, sit on the side of the pond, enjoy a walk through the garden, sip on a cup of coffee or enjoy looking at art in the park.
You have to get out here and see all the attractions for yourself! We've only touched the surface of everything there is to do. Park hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Can you believe this place is in Oklahoma! Thank you to everyone who donated to make this place a reality!
While in Tulsa, here is a great restaurant right down the street from the park we recommend you check out.
