Discover Some Delightful Mini-Falls While You Take This Easy Hike At Caesar Creek State Park In Ohio
Discover the easy and scenic hike to Horseshoe Falls in Caesar Creek State Park, Ohio.
Here in Ohio, there's always something new to explore—if you know where to look, that is. One of the state’s most underrated hikes is hiding in Caesar Creek State Park in Waynesville, Ohio. Part of a larger trail system, the trek to Horseshoe Falls is an easy, eventful journey that’s perfect for a short day hike. Here's why this miniature waterfall and underrated trail belongs on your outdoor bucket list:
Part of a longer trail, the fairly easy trek to Horseshoe Falls is a total of 2.4 miles out and back.
You'll start your adventure at the Flat Fork Ridge Recreation Area on Clarksville Rd., just down the road from the Caesar Creek Visitor's Center.
To get to the falls, follow the yellow markings of the park's 11.5-mile Perimeter Loop Trail.
You can hike the whole loop trail to see the falls, or just park your vehicle at Flat Fork Ridge and follow the yellow markings.
Along this 1.2-mile portion of the trail, most of the terrain is flat. You'll hike through the forest and trek through a clearing with beautiful views of the lake.
Some wooded areas can be fairly steep, so be sure to watch your step. And whenever the trail splits, just look for the yellow markings to show the way.
Before you reach the falls, you'll hear them. There's a lovely overlook with a bench where you can stop, sit and take in the view.
Note: You'll also pass a few cliffs along the way, so if you're hiking with children be sure to proceed with caution.
Once you reach the swinging bridge, you'll know that you're close to the falls.
(You'll want to stop and get a few photos of this unique bridge!)
This impressive bridge is just 5-years-old. It spans 103 ft. across a stream that flows into Caesar Creek.
After you've crossed the swinging bridge, it won't be long until you hear the falls and approach the observation area.
Although it's not a towering waterfall, these off-the-radar falls are picture perfect. Proceed with caution to the creek bed to get a better view.
And be sure to look around before you head back, as the surrounding area itself is gorgeous.
