You’re Going To Love These Predictions About Cincinnati’s Mild Upcoming Winter
Winter in Cincinnati can be quite interesting. We tend to see it all, from days that seem to belong in spring to heavy snow and ice that shuts down the city. Of course, the real charm of it is that these two things can happen within the same week. Each year, the Farmer's Almanac releases its predictions for the upcoming winter and those for 2017-2018 are now available. So what is the forecast for Cincinnati? Well, if you love snow and freezing cold temperatures... you may want to move somewhere else (at least for the upcoming season!)
If this snowy scene of a Cincinnati street conjures up deep feelings of dread, then you're going to love this year's predictions for our winter weather.
Overall, the Farmer's Almanac is calling for milder months with less than average snowfall. So maybe we won't get stranded in hours of snowy traffic this year!
Our winter is more likely to look like this photo.
But unfortunately, with more rain. While the forecast is predicting less snow, it's also saying we will have more overall precipitation, which means more rain.
With warmer temperatures, may come more ice.
Ice on the tree limbs may be beautiful in a photo, but it's no one's favorite.
The Farmer's Almanac breaks it down by month so we can know what to expect.
The coldest periods will be in early- to mid-December, late December, early January, and early- to mid-February. The snowiest periods of the season will arrive in mid-December, early February, and mid-March. So maybe we'll get lucky with a white Christmas?
Cincinnati has plenty of outdoor events throughout winter, and it looks like it may be a good year to take part in them.
If you like milder temperatures, albeit with a bit of rain, and the Almanac's predictions do come true, you'll love our upcoming winter.
You may be wondering how often is the Farmer's Almanac correctly predicts the seasons.
They actually have a pretty good track record. Their secret system - which considers environmental factors, weather history, seasonal patterns, and astronomy, among other things - is claimed to be accurate around 80% of the time! The Farmer's Almanac has been published each year since 1818, so they have had plenty of time to perfect their forecast formulas.
Meteorologists are a bit more skeptical, judging the Almanac's accuracy to be closer to 50%. Either way, it can be quite hard to predict weather so far in advance, and we all know that anything can happen on any given day in Cincinnati.
