North Dakota has some truly beautiful natural areas. Some of them are best visited certain times of the year, but there are others that are perfect no matter when you go. The place best known for being a "four seasons playground" is an exceptionally gorgeous recreation area, and here's what makes it such a great spot for year-round fun:
This vast state recreation area is perfect to let out your inner explorer no matter the season. Pembina Gorge State Recreation Area has miles of trails in this heavily wooded river valley and plenty of other things to do, too.
During the warm days of summer, the Pembina River itself is a popular part of the park. People love to fish and kayak on it, surrounded by trees and hills.
Kayakers traveling down the river will go through truly spectacular views, and hikers and bikers will enjoy the trails alongside the water.
The many miles of trails are also perfect for other modes of transportation, such as horseback and ATVs.
During the fall, this is one of the prettiest areas of North Dakota. People travel from all over to see the changing colors of the leaves, and with so many trees in the gorge, you're sure to see an amazing array of vivid colors during the peak of fall foliage each year.
As winter comes, the park stays busy for many reasons. The trails remain open for snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and more, and the Pembina Gorge remains as beautiful as ever.
There is even a winter park within the recreation area, Frost Fire, with skiing, snowboarding, and tubing hills, providing fun for everyone. No matter what time of year you visit, the Pembina Gorge State Recreation Area has something to do - and you'll have a blast doing it.
