This Might Just Be The Most Beautiful Hike In North Dakota

Though North Dakota isn't exactly considered one of the hiking capitals of the world, there is a ton of amazing trails to be discovered here that are perfect for any casual stroller or long-time hiking enthusiast. Trails are some of the best ways to experience and explore North Dakota's nature, and here is one of the best.

If you want a trail that will bring you to some of the very best vantage points to see a piece of this state's beautiful landscapes, then this is the one for you:

This wonderful trail is known as the Caprock-Coulee Trail, located in the North Unit of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

You begin on the Nature Trail, taking you through the trees and underbrush that fill the valleys of the badlands for about 3/4 of a mile.

As you continue, the trail moves into the main Caprock-Coulee trail, and begins to ascend up ridges. Sticking to the trail will make this easiest.

This hike is well worth the upward climb, and you'll see that as soon as you begin cresting the ridge line.

The view from the top is absolutely astounding. You can see the Little Missouri River in the distance, and it is the perfect vantage point to view the beauty that is the North Unit.

The hike to this point is about 2 and 1/2 miles, and includes a rock shelter known as the River Bend Overlook, built in 1937.

The overlook is a perfect place to relax and just take in the views of a lifetime.

The trail will descend and loop back to the trailhead, still offering glimpses of the beauty that is the North Dakota badlands.

Can you believe that only about 10 percent of the people who visit the Theodore Roosevelt National Park go to the North Unit? This place deserves way more recognition, because it's just downright gorgeous!
