The best part about being in North Dakota in the summer is our access to tons of great lakes. When the temperatures are high, it's nice to enjoy a day lakeside, out on the boat, or taking a dip in the cool water. We've featured many awesome places to achieve all of this before and now we've taken a look at some of the best when it comes to swimming. Here are some of the spots you'll want to hit up this summer:
1. Beaver Lake
Beaver Lake, located near Wishek, ND, is a fantastic spot for lake fun. The state park located here has a sandy swimming beach. On top of that, it has some of the most pristine, clear water in the state. More information.
2. Lake Tschida
Otherwise known as the Heart Butte Reservoir, this beautiful lake has all you need for the best of summer recreation. Make this place a weekend trip with their many campsites and ways to enjoy the water. More information.
3. Raging Rivers Waterpark
One of North Dakota's best waterparks is located right in the city of Mandan. It has everything people love about waterparks: a lazy river, exciting slides, and plenty of space to swim and enjoy the nice cool water. More information.
4. Lake Sakakawea State Park
Though Lake Sakakawea itself is huge with more shoreline than California, this particular state park has a fantastic beach for swimming access to the lake. That plus the best camping spots, hiking trails, and more should make it one of your top summer destinations. More information.
5. Lake Metigoshe
This lake has the bluest, most beautiful water in all of North Dakota. Located near Bottineau, ND, it's hard to find prettier views. The calm waters are great for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, or simply just dipping your toes in from the side. More information.
6. Lake Renwick
This scenic lake has swimming beaches and other lake access that make it perfect for a hot summer day trip. Fishing here is awesome, too. The whole family would have a blast coming up here for the weekend! More information.
7. West River Community Center Park
Forget the average public pool, this community center in Dickinson, ND is one of the best swimming spots in the entire state. Both indoor and outdoor pools are open throughout summer. It is a delightful waterpark that is great for all ages. More information.
8. Lake Ashtabula
Lake Ashtabula, located near Valley City, ND, is exactly what you need on a hot day in July. With plenty of water access and gorgeous views, it doesn't get much better. More information.
