Out of the many restaurants in North Dakota, there are certain ones that made it to the top and became the state's most popular restaurants. It might be because of how good their food is or because they're in a unique location, or maybe it's just that they've become a staple and gotten their commercial jingle stuck in everyone's head... or a combination of any of these. Regardless of what got them there, these 7 eateries are now famous in some way or another, and they are totally worth the hype:
1. Rhombus Guys - Grand Forks
Not only is this restaurant known for its great local brews, the food is just as enticing and keeps this place packed with customers night after night. They have a little bit of everything and all of it is delicious. Add on the fact that it is located at a unique and beautiful historical building in downtown Grand Forks and you have all the right ingredients to result in a famous restaurant that will easily prove why when you visit it.
Rhombus Guys is located at 116 S 3rd St, Grand Forks, ND, 58201.
2. The HoDo - Fargo
The Hotel Donaldson is one of the most famous spots in North Dakota, and part of that is because of their restaurant, The HoDo. This is one of the best spots in the state to get upscale meals you would find at the world's most renowned restaurants. It is located in the scenic downtown Fargo area and is a true staple of the city.
The HoDo is located at 101 Broadway, Fargo, ND, 58102.
3. The Toasted Frog - Grand Forks, Bismarck, Fargo
The Toasted Frog is definitely one of North Dakota's most unique and somewhat unusual restaurants, but after starting out in Grand Forks it has grown to have three locations and all of them are constantly busy - and there's a good reason why. Their food is amazingly tasty, even if some of it may be a little bit different, like their famous original appetizer "Fried Cheesy Pickles," shown above, that is more delicious than you can imagine. It's a little something different and well worth all the praise and popularity.
The Toasted Frog has three locations that can be found here.
4. Pride Dairies - Bottineau
This one is a little different than the other restaurants on this list, but it still deserves a spot. Pride Dairies is one of the last local creameries in the state, and they have made a name for themselves by making fantastic homemade ice cream. This is way better than any soft serve or average cones you've ever tried anywhere else. Having ice cream here is almost life changing when you realize what you've been missing. Freshly made and always perfect, Pride Dairies certainly fits the hype around it.
Pride Dairies is located at 517 Thompson St, Bottineau, ND, 58318.
5. The Starving Rooster - Minot
If you want the perfect pizza pie in this prairie state, you'll want to go to The Starving Rooster in Minot. Other than being in the unique location of a former tractor factory, this place gained traction after people tried their wonderful pizza creations. They have plenty of other options, too, including sandwiches and even breakfast options. Regardless of what you choose here, you'll easily see why so many people love it.
The Starving Rooster is located at 30 1st St NE, Minot, ND, 58703.
6. Kroll's Diner - Mandan, Bismarck, Minot, Fargo
Kroll's is by far one of the most well-known staples of North Dakota eateries. Whether you know them from their slogan of "sit down and eat" or love them for their food that embraces the cultural history of many North Dakotans, you can't deny that it is one of the top when it comes to popularity in this state. Other than the usual tasty diner meals and comfort food, they have plenty of regional options that perfectly define this state.
Kroll's Diner has four locations that can be found here.
7. Pitchfork Steak Fondue - Medora
This is by far one of the most unusual restaurants in North Dakota for multiple reasons. The biggest one is, of course, the fact that they make their steaks on actual, real pitchforks by dipping them fondue-style to cook them. The next huge reason is the spectacular views of the badlands you get from their outdoor seating area. It is arguably one of the most beautifully located restaurants in the state, and the steaks are actually pretty darn good, too. It is certainly a special spot in North Dakota that is worth the hullabaloo.
Pitchfork Steak Fondue is located at Chateau Road, Tjaden Terrace, Medora, ND, 58645.
