The first few flowers are starting to emerge across the North Dakota prairie and it's time to store those winter coats and take out the camping and hiking gear. Not far outside the small town of Velva, North Dakota is an outdoor park just waiting for you to explore it.

Black Butte Adventures is a place where you can let your inner explorer out on the gently rolling prairie hills.

The park has over 5 miles of hiking and biking trails that wind through the tall prairie grasses. You can extend your visit overnight with their primitive campgrounds, too.

Whether you take the trek on foot or on bike, you'll be treated to the gorgeous natural views, quiet and serenity of nature, and a good breath of fresh air.

You can expect to come across some critters on your journey as well. Cows and horses roam the area as well as wild animals that call this land home.

Take in the calming sounds and cool water of a creek in the area either by yourself or on one of their guided tours. There is a little something for people of all skill levels, whether you just want to go on a stroll or get a workout on a bike ride.
