Audubon National Wildlife Refuge in North Dakota is a prime spot to see a stunning array of wildflowers in spring and summer.
Now that the prairie crocuses are re-emerging across the plains we can truly start to feel like spring has arrived in North Dakota. As we get into May and summer you can head out to a place where you can fully appreciate the beauty of this time of year. This particular wildlife refuge becomes lush with wildflowers and it's a stunning sight to behold.
The very first flowers of spring are starting to reemerge across North Dakota, so it's a good time to start planning on a day trip to see thousands more.
The Audubon National Wildlife Refuge near Coleharbor, North Dakota is a great place to see wildflowers during spring and summer.
The refuge is over 14,700 acres in size with a great visitors center and other amenities to make your trip a good one.
The area is mostly natural prairie, wetlands, and shoreline of Lake Audubon.
These grassy prairie hills become a gorgeous array of native grasses and flowers that turn it into a colorful masterpiece.
Flowers like prairie smoke will be blooming in springtime, and it's stunning.
As we move further into late spring and early summer, there are times that the refuge becomes a sea of flowers. You can appreciate these on the trails or on the 8-mile scenic auto route.
You'll see thousands of flowers of many different kinds out on this quiet refuge. Flowers aside, it's a wonderful spot to immerse yourself in nature and just enjoy the peace and quiet of it all.
