The One Of A Kind Ferry Boat Adventure You Can Take In North Carolina
Enjoy a unique adventure by taking the Shackleford Wild Horse and Shelling Safari from Beaufort to Cape Lookout National Seashore.
Everyone loves an epic adventure and this one is on the list of great ones to enjoy. If you love finding shells and prefer beaches that aren't laden with tourists (who are also looking for shells!), or if you have always wanted to see the famous wild horses of North Carolina, then you are certain to enjoy yourself on this adventure.
You'll board a ferry from Beaufort enroute to Cape Lookout National Seashore.
The picturesque journey is a short 15 minutes before you reach your destination and the real fun begins.
On the Shackleford Wild Horse and Shelling Safari, your guide does this for a living and knows where to find the horses — and the shells.
It's a combination that you're sure to love!
The wild horses are believed to have been on the island for some 400 years.
The numbers have dwindled significantly and the total is now down to a little over 100 of these magnificent creatures still on the island.
The shells, on the other hand, are forever replenishing! Don't forget to bring a bag to carry home your treasure.
The Shackleford Wild Horse and Shelling Safari has been licensed by the U.S. Park Service for nearly 15 years to conduct tours on the island. And many folks return year after year for this fun family outing.
The Shackleford Wild Horse and Shelling Safari leaves from Grayden Paul Park at 702 Front St., Beaufort, NC 28516. You'll reserve your tour online and this means you don't have to go wait in line at the ferry ticket booth. Just meet at the Gazebo. A few things to know in advance: you need to make a reservation for this safari in order to guarantee your passage both ways on the ferry. The minimum time you can stay on the island is two hours. There are no facilities, and you need bring water because there are no concession sales. For more information and to book your tour, head over to the official website.
