Visiting a pumpkin patch when you're a small child is practically a rite of passage anywhere you live - even in the city. Further still, making the trek to a local farm with your kids is at least as fun for mom and dad as it is for the kiddos. While some people prefer to find a roadside stand and choose from a variety of pumpkins already plucked from the fields, others want that quintessential fall experience of perusing the crop and finding the perfect gourd all on their own.
At Carrigan Farms located just outside of Charlotte in Mooresville, you (and the kiddos) can do just that. In fact, this field of pumpkins is so many acres large, you could, theoretically, spend hours here.
For the past 44 years, Carrigan Farms has fired up the tractor to transport visitors by way of a hayride to their orchard and pumpkin patch each fall. Certain days of the week are set aside for school groups, while others are open to the public.
It's a fun adventure for all members of the family, even the smallest, who can always find a pumpkin that's just their size.
If you've never actually picked your own pumpkin, you'll be happy to know that not all of the pumpkins in the field are still attached to the vine — although you'll find plenty of those, too.
For a fee, you'll hop on the hayride and be on your way to finding that perfect pumpkin to carve for Halloween, accent your fall decor, or create some scrumptious fall treats to delight the taste buds.
Go ahead and mark your calendar now: pick your own pumpkins at Carrigan Farms begins on October 1st.
