There’s a wonderful trail in Brevard, North Carolina that offers stunning views over the Pisgah National Forest.
A short, 45-minute drive from Asheville, North Carolina, this incredible spot is close enough to the cities to make it easy to get to, but far enough away to enjoy some solitude.
This hike is 5.7 miles, out and back.
The first couple of miles start out pretty easy, but the last mile is a little harder. You’ll hike a total of 1,729 feet of elevation throughout the trail.
You’ll find all kinds of flowers blooming along the trail.
There are plenty of roots making steps along the trail, so make sure you put on sturdy shoes. You’ll want to make sure you maintain your footing, especially at the top.
The trail is well marked with yellow, so it’s easy to follow.
You’ll pass by streams that cascade in small waterfalls along the trail. You’ll switchback up the mountain before your final ascent.
It earned the name “Looking Glass” because when rainwater freezes on the surface of the rock, it reflects the sun and looks like a polished mirror.
Crowds tend to congregate in afternoon, so if you want a quiet hike, it’s recommended that you head out in the early morning. The views are still stunning, and they’ll be all yours!
There’s a parking area right outside the trailhead.
If the parking lot is full, make sure you don’t park on the dirt road. That may result in a fine, which would spoil an incredible day.
