Enjoy A Secluded Stroll On A Little-Known Path Along These Lovely North Carolina Waterfalls
This little-known hiking path in North Carolina is a 2.3-mile out-and-back trail in the charming mountain village of Blowing Rock. The Glen Burney Trail showcases two waterfalls along its wooded borders with the potential for a third if you add on about an eighth of a mile. The trailhead sits near Annie Cannon Park with easy public access. This hike is surprisingly steep for being so close to town with a moderately rough surface, including rocks, roots, and drop-offs. Hiking shoes and trekking poles are recommended, especially after a rain or in the colder months that bring ice and snow. Let's take a look at this lovely trail in North Carolina.
This wooded trail is mostly downhill on the way in, which makes for some steep uphill sections on the return trip.
Watch out for some muddy areas and roots along the way.
Take a breather and enjoy the tranquility of the pretty, bubbling brook, especially when it's decorated with wild blooms.
Also, keep an eye out for the insects, birds, and other wild creatures that share this secluded area.
Summer brings lush greenery and some much-welcomed shade.
The first waterfall is The Cascades.
And after you reach this showstopper, a sign ahead indicates the trail splits to either Glen Burney Falls or Glen Marie Falls.
The Glen Burney Falls
spreads across several cascades down a moss-covered boulder which you can watch from above on an observation platform or from the bottom.
If you add the extra eighth of a mile, you can also see the sparkling Glen Marie Falls.
We especially enjoy this trip on a crispy fall morning when the sun first lights the vivid changing colors.
The hike offers nice elevation and a good aerobic workout for your heart among other body parts.
Enjoy the variety of terrain and bridges along this route surrounded by the rich woods.
Trudging through the snow can be treacherous in some places so come prepared.
But if you can safely make your way, is anything more rewarding than a frozen waterfall?
