One of the best parts about Hanging Rock is the magnificent waterfalls. In total, there are five notable waterfalls that are always worth chasing.

One of the most magnificent Hanging Rock waterfalls is Upper Cascades Falls. The best way to get to these falls is via the short and easy Upper Cascades Falls and Rock Garden Trail.

At only 0.8 miles, this easy trek will only take about 20 minutes to make, although you'll want to allow more time to sit and enjoy the cascade!

And then there's the breathtaking Lower Cascade Falls that pours right into a natural pool for some Hanging Rock State Park swimming, especially to cool off during the hot and humid summer months.

One of the other gorgeous Hanging Rock State Park falls is Hidden Falls. You can access this waterfall as well as Window Falls along the moderate 1.2-mile Hidden and Window Falls via Indian Creek Trail.

Aside from the waterfalls, Hanging Rock State Park is home to an epic rock outcropping that provides a bird's eye view of the park...

...as well as Tory's Den. You can access this mountain cave and the tallest waterfall in the park, Tory’s Falls, where the water drops 240 feet over a series of rock terraces, via the easy 0.5-mile Tory's Den & Falls Trail.

Hiking In Hanging Rock State Park

In all, there are 48 miles of hiking trails here at Hanging Rock State Park, along with 15 miles of mountain biking trails and 6 miles of equestrian trails. So, grab some hiking boots and explore the park!

With an extensive list of trails, you'll be able to wander to inspiring woodlands, water, and wildlife.

The Hanging Rock Trail leads to the Hanging Rock outcropping after a 1.3-mile hike. Depending on the hiker, it usually takes about an hour to make it to the top.

The big payoff on this trail is views of one of the most beautiful canyons in the country. This peak sits at an elevation of 2,159 feet where you can take time to ingest the inspiring vastness of the landscape.

If you only have time for one hike, make it this one!

In addition to the overhang, you can hike to the park's five spectacular waterfalls.

This tiered waterfall is featured on the Indian Creek Trail, located just about a half-mile from the Visitor Center parking lot.

And when you are hot and tired, take a dip at the inviting swimming beach, a 12-acre lake, formed by the damming of Cascade Creek.

Camping In Hanging Rock State Park

There's so much to see and do at this North Carolina state park, that you're going to have a hard time fitting it all into one day. Stay overnight at the amazing Hanging Rock State Park campground and extend your trip. There are both tent and cabin options available.

If you want to experience Hanging Rock State Park Camping, there are 73 campsites for tents, trailers, and RVs. However, there are no hookups. Sites include picnic tables, tent pads, and grills.

Campsites should be reserved at least 24 hours in advance. For more information and reservations, visit the park's website.

The sites are large enough to accommodate two tents and up to six people. For your comfort, this campground has its own bathhouse and comfort station.

If you prefer more comfort than a tent, reserve one of the 10 Hanging Rock State Park cabins. Each cabin has its own porch, air conditioning, heat, and electricity as well as a kitchen, a living room, and two bedrooms with a total of five beds. Several cabins also have a full bathroom.

Outdoors, you'll find a picnic table, a fire ring, and a charcoal grill. While tent camping can be fun, the cabins are certainly an option for those who don't want to sleep in a tent.

Of course, you'll find plenty to keep you busy here at Hanging Rock State Park. From exploring the hiking trails to swimming in the lake, splashing in waterfalls, and exploring the majestic beauty and stunning views at Hanging Rock, you can easily fill up an entire weekend at this gorgeous place.
