Unless you live nearby, you have probably not heard of Kring Point State Park before. That's a shame, because this is a fantastic yet underrated state park that gives visitors the opportunity to experience New York's gorgeous Thousand Islands Region. Best of all, this state park is on a peninsula, so you'll feel like you're on one of this area's famous islands while still on the mainland. That means you can bring your car or camper to the park and can camp by it, but you can also enjoy Thousand Islands activities like birdwatching, camping, fishing, and boating with ease. Kring Point State Park is one of the oldest parks in the New York State Parks system. It was established in 1898 and visitors have been enjoying it ever since. Today, it's open from the beginning of May to Columbus Day every year.
This park covers 61 acres. Because it is on a peninsula, you can see either the St. Lawrence River or Goose Bay from almost every place in the park.
The views of this waterway are amazing. You can watch boats go by all day.
The water around here is so clear. You can see the bottom in many places.
It's a wonderful place for kayaking. Many people bring kayaks or canoes when they visit Kring Point State Park.
Head out on the water in a kayak and explore. This part of New York is beautiful.
In addition to a boat launch, this state park has docks available for boaters to use for a fee.
If you'd rather stay on land, this park is equally enjoyable. You can walk right up to the water on the rocks. The rocks may be slippery, so be careful - but you don't have to worry about mud on this rocky shore. This is something that makes this park a great place for fishing.
Most of this park is its campground, although there is a day use area as well.
There are 99 campsites and 50 of them are waterfront. There are also eight cabins if you'd prefer to camp that way.
Many of the sites allow you to fish right from your campsite.
Your kids will love the playground. There's a pavilion that you can rent for gatherings, and the campground also has showers.
Kring Point State Park is especially lovely in the fall when the leaves are changing.
