This Gondola Ride Through New York’s Mountains Will Leave You In Awe

Have you ever wanted to enjoy the views of New York's tallest mountains, but weren't quite up for the strenuous hike they might entail? Well, we may have found the perfect solution for you. The charming village of Lake Placid is home to our state's 5th highest mountain and also, one pretty unbelievable gondola ride. Hold onto your seats, this adventure isn't for the faint-hearted!

An amazing area that almost all of our residents make a point to visit, Lake Placid is filled with tons of adventure and history.

Most commonly known as being the host of the 1980 Winter Olympics and home to our High Peaks, this area is like a dream come true to anyone who enjoys exploring beautiful views. With a total elevation of 4,865 feet, Whiteface Mountain is our 5th highest mountain and draws in a lot of visitors, especially during our winter months.

At the base of the mountain, you'll find the impressive Cloudsplitter Gondola.

Open year-round, the ride costs $20 per adult or $15 for kids ages 7-12 years old and senior's 65 and older. Tip? If you purchase your tickets online, you can save $2 on an adult ticket!

The ride can fit up to 8 people and generally lasts about 15 minutes each way.

The perfect adventure to take with your family, group of friends or even serving as a great place to enjoy some alone time up on the mountain! You'll find many visitors bringing their own lunches to enjoy at the top, where you'll find a beautiful picnic area waiting for you.

Over 8,000 feet long, the ride gives you unforgettable views of our tallest mountains, gorgeous forests, and so much more.

If you decide to visit during the summer, you'll be able to check out the wildflowers growing all over the mountain and see far off into the distance on a clear day. Don't forget to keep your eye out for wildlife!
