Are you looking for a way to interact with your community positively while receiving healthy, cared for products and foods? Farmers markets are a great place to start. There are some amazing markets in the greater New Orleans area that are hubs for good vibes, great people, and a sense of community spirit. Here are our favorites.
1) Sankofa Market, 5029 St. Claude Ave.
This weekly Saturday market from 10am - 1pm in the Lower 9th ward neighborhood offers up some amazing produce from their own farms as well as surrounding food producers and growers.
2) Hollygrove Market and Farm, 8301 Olive St.
This once weekly market has expanded and grown over the years to now offer service daily, providing the popular produce box, a bundle of goodies for individuals to enjoy from local farms across the region.
3) Crescent City Farmers Market
This is the premier farmers market in the New Orleans area, popping up in three locations throughout the week: the parking lot of the former Uptown Square development in Carrollton on Tuesday mornings, in the parking lot of the American Can company in Mid-city on Thursday evenings, and now at 750 Carondelet in the CBD on Saturday mornings. It's awesome!
4) Freret Market, 4405 Freret St.
This monthly market offers fresh produce, prepared foods, as well as lots of local arts and crafts to appreciate and enjoy.
5) Refresh Farmers Market, 300 N Broad St.
One of the newest markets on this list, a whole host of amazing producers and growers can now be found outside of Whole Foods on Monday evenings from 4pm - 7pm. Vendors range from the delicious jams and jellies offered by the Sangoma House to organically grown plant starts by local gardeners at Southbound Gardens.
