During the spring and summer months, the landscape comes alive with gorgeous wildflowers dotting the landscape with their vibrant colors. If you wish to view summer wildflowers in New Mexico, there is one hike you should take if you're able to.
Located in the Taos Ski Valley, Wheeler Peak Wilderness encompasses nearly 20,000 acres within New Mexico's Carson National Forest. Here you'll find Wheeler Peak, the highest point in the state at 13,161 feet.
If you're keen on seeing wildflowers this summer, take the Williams Lake Trail to Wheeler Peak. This is a popular trail, especially between June and October, and there are plenty of reasons why people love it so much.
This trail is rated as hard and has an overall elevation gain of 2,972 feet but if you're able to make the trek, you're eyes will be treated to some of the most awe-inspiring views in the state!
If you intend on making the entire trek, make certain you set aside at least 6 hours in your day. Also, you can take dogs on this trail just as long as you keep them on a leash.
Not only are the views along this trail spectacular but you'll be able to view wildflowers in certain sections. The vibrant pops of color against the landscape will surely put a smile on your face!
You'll easily be able to see why this is a favorite trail within the southern Rocky Mountains of New Mexico.
