While there are dozens of state parks to choose from in the Land of Enchantment, this beautiful state park just outside of Las Cruces is peaceful as can be while still offering numerous activities for everyone. Not only is this park fun for all, it's home to one of our state's most historic dams. From camping to hiking or wading in the water, you'll want to spend a whole day at this enchanting New Mexico state park.
Leasburg Dam State Park is a beautiful state park upon the Rio Grande, just outside of Las Cruces.
Besides being a relaxing natural oasis, this state park is home to one of our most historic dams. The Leasburg Dam was built in 1908.
Unlike other dams, this one was used not to stop water, but to help divert it into a system of canals so nearby farmers could benefit from the river. While hanging out at this park, you can also be happy that its beauty is helping the community.
While Leasburg Dam State Park is a peaceful and relaxing spot, it's also full of many activities. There's even an observatory that holds night sky programs monthly.
This park is home to several trails that are perfect for taking in all of the scenery without taking too much out of you.
The river itself isn't too deep, but it's still a great spot to take a dip in the summer. Many use the river for canoeing and kayaking, and there are many spots for fishing throughout the year.
If you want to spend the night to take in all Leasburg Dam State Park has to offer, there are 23 different campsites to choose from. While some can be reserved, some are first come, first served, so please plan accordingly.
For a fun-filled day at one of New Mexico's most amazing state parks, you'll want to add this spot to your bucket list right away.
Leasburg Dam State Park is located at 12712 State Park Rd., Radium Springs, NM.
