We've lucked out this year, as the fall foliage in New Mexico is bright and bold as ever. There are dozens of overlooks, forests, and scenic drives to view the leaves changing colors, but this one trail in Santa Fe might top them all. As you're hiking up to the top of a mountain within one of our most spectacular national forests, you can see a sea of aspen trees all illuminating their golden leaves. If you're a lover of fall colors, this hike is perfect for you.

Welcome to the Aspen Vista Trail!

There's truly no better way to see fall foliage in New Mexico than hiking this incredible out-and-back trail.

Located in the Santa Fe National Forest, you'll be engulfed in hundreds of yellow aspens as you hike this 11-mile trail.

The hike isn't too steep, but you will gradually gain over 2,000 feet in elevation. By the top, you'll feel this moderately difficult trail. Dogs are welcome, as are horses! If you've wanted to do a horseback riding hike, Aspen Vista Trail is a good choice.

This trail is no short trail, but offers an entire afternoon of the beautiful nature of Santa Fe. Upon the hike you'll find much wildlife, and some of the best views in the state.

Although Aspen Vista Trail is a gorgeous hike to take all year, October is when the aspen trees come to life and illuminate their golden leaves.

As you reach the top, you'll be able to witness a sea of yellow leaves. There's truly no other sight quite like it.

Much of the trail is not shaded, so make sure to wear sunscreen. At 11 miles long, you'll want to pack food and water before embarking on this beautiful fall journey.

The Aspen Vista Trail is located inside Santa Fe National Forest near Hyde Memorial State Park.
